federal tax return extensions

I'm filing for a federal tax return extension - does anyone know if I have to file one with the state govt?.
I live in Colorado and I can't find anything on the internet that suggests I need to file for an extension on the state level.
Anyone have any ideas/sites that might be helpful?
if you're going to be late for state as you are with federal then yes you absolutely need to file an extension with the state. below is the link for the colorado department of revenue and it should have forms that you can print.

If file for tax extension and paid what i think is the amount that i owe....?.
and it turns out i have a refund, whatever that amount that i paid, will that be returned to me as part of my refund? and does the extension cover both the federal and state? if i file for a tax extension by myself say through the IRS website, can still use an accountant later for the actual filing if i want? Please help. Appreciate it in advance.
Yes, if you overpay and then file within 3 years, you'll get the excess back.
Each state has different rules. Some say if you can show you had a federal extension, you automatically have a state one; others have their own form.
Yes, you can file 4868 from free fillable forms or free file and still pay to have the return done elsewhere.
