May have forgot to claim 2006 refund as income on 2007 income taxes.?.
I think I forgot to add in the income from my 2006 refund to my 2007 income(for both State and Federal). How can I be sure? If I did make a mistake how do I fix it and how much in penalties would I have to pay...my refund was for about 800 dollars, I don't recall exactly.
I used the EZ forms for both years taking the standard deduction.
If you used the standard deduction then you are not required to claim your state income tax refund as income the following year. Your federal refund is never added as income, you overpaid your taxes so you were entitled to a refund (you are just getting your money back). Your state refund is only taxable to you when you itemize your deductions, (claiming your state income tax withholdings as a deductions). Hope this helps.
