federal income tax forms 2009

Will i get a refund or will i owe?.
married with one child and both are full time students. I am doing a paid internship and year to date federal income tax withheld for 2009 is only $0.46. and my gross earning is only $6,990.00 I claimed 2 on my W-2 form. So will i end up owing or will i see a return???
You said you're married. What'd your spouse do all year? If you're filing a joint return then it's impossible to say what will happen without knowing about them. If you're doing Married Filing Seperate then you will not owe, but you definately will not get a refund. If you file seperate and can qualify for Head of Household status then you may see some money back.

Federal Income Withholding Tax Tables for 2009, 2010
Uhhh I'm completely clueless about the FAFSA.......?.
Um, sorry if this is a stupid question but last week I gave my mom the paper from the FAFSA site that lists what we need to fill out the form. It says we need her 2009 Federal Income Tax Return, and she gave me a copy of an income tax return thing, but as I was filling out the form online I realized all over the papers it says 2008, not 2009... is this even the correct one?? Like I said I'm completely clueless and can't get in touch with her at the moment.. so if someone could help me out it would be very much appreciated.
Becca:
You're correct - you need the 2009 return - and I'm guessing that mom hasn't filled it out yet. That's not surprising, since of course, 2009 just ended a couple of weeks ago.
If your mom wants to make sure that you'll be considered for the best possible financial aid package every year, she'll need to do what millions of other parents-of-college-students do, and get in the habit of filing her taxes as early as possible every year. All those people who wait until the federal deadline of April 15th aren't the ones with kids in college. They're all filing much earlier.
The key deadline that you need to worry about is your school's Priority Aid Deadline. You'll find that date highlighted prominently in your admissions letter, and on the school website - check the financial aid portion of the website. Aid deadline day is the day that your school will begin to process applications and assemble aid packages. Students who submit their info before the deadline are considered for ALL forms of aid - students who miss the deadline are going to miss out on a few of the (smaller) aid programs. It's not the end of the world if you don't get your application in before the deadline, but you might not get as much as you could have been offered.
Talk to your mom about sitting down and doing her taxes as soon as she has her W-2s and her 1099s in hand - she'll have them by the end of January, and certainly by early February. Once she's filled in her return, then you and she can sit down and work through the FAFSA.
Don't take the oft-repeated but poor advice to complete the FAFSA with last year's numbers, or to indicate that your mother "Will File". All that will do is slow down the processing of your aid application - which I'm sure is not what you're hoping to accomplish.
Remember - you'll do this in the spring of every year - from now until you finish school. Every year, you'll need the tax return for the year that just ended - so get in the habit of doing your taxes as soon as you can.
Good luck to you!
