Simplest form of govt recognition/registration for a personal business?.

Hi, for a small personal business operated out of a residence + office. Doing webdesign, photography, videography what is the simplest for of govt registration i can get to just get a licence that im doing these services under the name XYZ design services. One guy suggested getting a Small Scale Industries licence.

But if i get this will i get into more problems of any kind than benefit ? Since im just an individual business enterpreneur. I dont want to register for SSI and then be faced with paying more than a normal proprietorship individual income tax.

Your suggestions and help will be much appreciated.

Thanks.
I am in INDIA.

I assume you are in the USA. First check your local laws. You may need a business license. Some of the services may be subject to sales tax, check the rules and be sure you comply with sales and use tax regulations. You may wish to register your trade name with the Secretary of State. You won't need to register with the Feds unless you need a permit or license to carry on some activity. You'll file as a sole proprietor on Schedule C attached to your 1040. Good luck!

How do taxes work in other countries?.

So which countries do "income tax"? ARe they a graduated scale like the US, or a flat rate? How do other countries tax their citizens if not with an income tax?

Which country has the best tax structure in your opinion?

My state has sales tax and property tax, so we pay sales tax, income tax, property tax (real and personal), etc.

I'm just curious how the other side of the fence works.

So ...
Canada? Mexico? Belize? UK? France? Spain? Australia? Germany? etc?
How are you taxed?

Most of the European countries have a value added tax. The tax is right in the price of the product. What you see is what you pay. They generally have high income taxes too, but they provide more free things, like health care, college, etc, than we do in America.
